FAQ
Q. My
window made a popping sound and now it is stuck in the middle. I can
hear the motor running but it just makes a crunching noise and then
stops.
A. That's a
classic case of a bad cable regulator. The cable has either
de-spooled or snapped completely. Unfortunately, a cable regulator
cannot be repaired, It must be replaced
Q. My
window has been going slower and slower over time and now, sometimes it
just stops. I have to wait a minute or so to try and get it up again.
A. The motor is weak
and overheating causing it to trip its thermal overload. The motor needs
to be replaced to restore normal operation.
Q. My
window just stopped! It was working fine yesterday and now, today, it
does nothing. I don't hear a noise at all when I try to move it.
A. This is likely one
of two things. It could be that your window switch went bad and the
contacts in the switch are heavily carbonized. -OR- Too much
carbon is built up inside the motor, not allowing current to pass
through the brushes. There are tests to determine the cause of this
problem.
Q. I
hear the motor turning, but it just makes a clunking sound and the
window doesn't move.
A. This is probably a
case where your motor needs to have new spacers installed. This is less
expensive than replacing the motor
Q. My
window goes up, but it's crooked. Once side is higher than the other.
A. It's likely that
the connecting rail is broken, or the saddle on the sash is broken.
Sometimes these parts can be re-attached, but in other cases glass
replacement is required.
